Dear Sen. Obama,

I just finished watching your latest attempt to “change the tone in Washington”—your ad attacking John McCain because he “can’t send an email.”

Like Sen. McCain, I understand that politics ain’t beanbag.  Negative ads are part of the business.  In fact, as a former political consultant, I used to run them myself.

But I can’t imagine any circumstances under which I would have ever run an ad attacking a war hero for the injuries he suffered at the hands of North Vietnamese prison guards.

The reason Sen. McCain “can’t send an email” is because he had his bones broken and fingers crushed by war criminals who tortured him during his service to our nation as a Navy pilot.  You know that.  Your campaign knows that.  And, in the desperate hours as your campaign flounders, you chose to turn those scars into a cynical and false attack on John McCain.

Sen. Obama, I have the honor of working with the Fisher House Foundation, an organization that provides housing to wounded soldiers and their families.   Through the Fisher House, I’ve met brave young men who lost arms and legs fighting terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq.

What if, Sen. Obama, one of these veterans should choose to run for public office against an “agent of change” like yourself one day?  Will they have to endure ads about how they “can’t send an email,” too?  You know, Sen. Obama, some of these heroes can’t play the piano, speed dial their cellphones or dance the Macarena, either.  Am I to assume they are, in your opinion, unfit for duty?

It is you, Sen. Obama, who are unfit to serve as Commander-In-Chief.  Your lack of fitness is demonstrated in this disgusting attack on the painful legacy of John McCain’s service to America.

Shame on you, Sen. Barack Obama.  If your years as a Chicago machine politico haven’t stripped all sense of decency from you, you will pull this ad immediately and personally apologize to Sen. McCain.

Because of the difficulties Sen. McCain faces in writing you himself, I am proud to write on his behalf.

America has seen Sen. McCain’s character revealed as he has been tested under fire.  Now we are seeing yours.  He may not be able to send you an email, Sen. Obama, but John McCain has a lot he could teach you about honor, honesty and respect.

Sincerely,

Michael Graham
