"...Statistics show that lawful Mexican immigrants have the lowest percentages of any immigrant group in seeking out American citizenship or in efforts to either learn English themselves or teach it to their children. They also have the lowest rates of moving outside immigrant communities into the wider society. It is obvious that many Mexicans just do not want to assimilate to America but want America to assimilate to them. Remember, these are the legal immigrants. Can you imagine the attitudes of the illegals? Couple this with the prevailing attitudes that vast parts of America are actually part of Mexico, and the growing presence of separatist groups it is plain to see that America has a major problem brewing on the horizon..."[Our "Ally" To The South] [Link updated: Apr 5, 06]
"... America has generally welcomed those who desire to emigrate and become a part of this nation. Our ancestors were all immigrants. But they usually did not come here illegally to suck up our resources or engage in criminal behavior. They came with a desire to work and contribute to their communities. They had an interest in the success of their villages and towns. They constructed homes, farms, churches and synagogues which demonstrated their permanence. They embraced the language and culture while still honoring and retaining their heritage. They did not demand that we adapt to their language and culture – after all they were entering our country as guests..."

You're funny.
Here's something you've said about global warming:
"You have to draw the line somewhere otherwise, the doomsdayers and Chicken Littles run your life and cloud your thinking with false prophesies and scare tactics to say the least.
(my italics)
Here's something you quoted in this entry:
"Couple this with the prevailing attitudes that vast parts of America are actually part of Mexico, and the growing presence of separatist groups it is plain to see that America has a major problem brewing on the horizon."
Then there are those pictures you've posted: the racist Mexifornia license plate, the Meximerica picture with the Statue of Liberty, the George Bush peso.
And you accuse me of engaging in scare tactics?!?! Sheesh.
Dan, thanks for writing. The global warming scare stuff is all futuristic theory that can't be proved during our lifetime in any kind of measurable or concrete way. What you call scare tactics in my post are actually REALITY today. States have been bowing to the interests of illegal aliens over American interests for at least a decade now or more. Mexifornia is just a play on words since Baja Califonia, the piece of land south of our California is actually in Mexico. Yes some of the pictures may go over the top in the post, by they help to keep a mental picture of what we are up against with this illegal alien crisis going on. The world, especially our Latin neighbors to the south, want us to continue to be the doormat that we are, or we can wise-up and enforce strict immigration again and get a hold of this crisis.
Mexifornia is reality? The return of pre-1848 borders is a reality? Meximerica is a reality?
I agree that immigration is a problem, but not to the extent that your post suggests. Mexico will never again own California, Arizona, New Mexico, etc. Nor do illegal immigrants want those areas to become part of Mexico. They hate their country and its abyssmal economy. That's why they've left it to come here.
To answer John Wayne's question about why he has to press '1' for English:
Capitalism encourages this. Businesses realize that by providing a Spanish option, they will be able to reach more customers. Let us not forget that the marketplace-is-king mentality is one that has been pushed by the Republican party for generations. Ronald Reagan, for example, was a strong believer in the concepts supported by Milton Friedman. In a Laissez-Faire system such as ours, it is only logical that businesses will provide a Spanish option.
Should the government pass regulations that prevent banks from providing a Spanish option?
Dan, thanks again for your post. I really wish it was true what you say about the illegals wanting to leave their country behind for ours, but that is just not true of ALL of them. In those large gatherings they attend they proudly wave the Mexican flag and even are members of the fringe group MEChA that former California Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante is or was even a member of. These people have no interest in assimilating into our culture. They do not even learn our language nor, thanks to sympathic laws, even listen to it on the radio, television, and print. Even government documents are written in languages other then English to cater to the unassilimated. As for the "capitalists", they have to stop using the illegals to do their work under the table and at all. There are enough American teenagers, and retired people and others who can do the work very satifactory. Some of the agriculture could even be done by machine now. American businesses have no excuse to resort to this type of slave-labor. The Republican party members overall are for strict immigration law enforcement like a crackdown on employers and a wall. It's the leaders of the party who are too timid to actually follow through.
Many Mexican-American organizations have actively registered voters. MEChA has been very aggressive in recruiting new voters. MEChA's national constitution calls for the "liberation of our land." MEChA has had prominent political leaders among its members. For example, Antonio Villaraigosa, current mayor of Los Angeles, headed MEChA's chapter in Los Angeles when he was a student at UCLA. Cruz Bustamante, the lieutenant governor of California, was also a member of MEChA, as was California State Sen. Gil Cedillo, who has been vigorously pushing legislation to grant driver's licenses to illegal aliens. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/printer-friendly.asp?ARTICLE_ID=50050
I really hate the term "illegals." Do we use that term to define other criminals? Why don't we call drunk drivers illegals?
Why don't we use the term "illegals" to describe the people who illegally hire undocumented immigrants?
The term "illegals" is a pejorative word used to dehumanize illegal immigrants. Yes, they are guilty of a crime. But why is it that only they are called "illegals"?
Do you have poll numbers on how many Mexican immigrants believe the Southwest should be returned to Mexico?
(Interesting historical footnote: Abraham Lincoln opposed the Mexican War. Even the great ones are wrong sometimes.)
And I appreciate that you don't lay all the blame at the feet of the illegal immigrants. They wouldn't come here if they couldn't get work, after all.
Dan, it's all semantics. I do not get the impression that the term "Illegal" is used to dehumanize-- on the contrary I think it is just to identify. It is just a word to describe the status of somebody in ours or any country without proper, or any, paperwork. If you prefer I could use the term "Trespassers", if you like, but I do not think it is exactly right. Here is a link to the statics you requested http://www.upi.com/inc/view.php?StoryID=12062002-011544-4757r
The poll was conducted by Zogby International. The group, over the period May 25-26, asked a series of questions of 801 Mexicans. A total of 1,015 U.S. citizens were questioned between May 28-30. The data have a margin of error of 3.5 percent.
Asked if they believed the U.S. Southwest rightfully belonged to Mexico, 58 percent of respondents in Mexico said it did, while 28 percent disagreed. A similar number -- 57 percent -- stated agreement with the position that Mexicans have the right to enter the United States without U.S. permission. A total of 35 percent disagreed.
That is a poll of people who live in Mexico, not Mexican immigrants who live in the United States.
That is the closest most recent survey that I know of that asks the question about the southwestern states. I do not think there is much of a difference between those Mexicans in Mexico who answered the survey or those Mexicans already in the United States who most likely would have answered the same way or it would have been more unanimous against us. I cannot imagine those here unlawfully would think that the U.S. Southwest rightfully belonged to the U.S. or that Mexicans do not have the right to enter the United States without U.S. permission, otherwise they wouldn't be here.
I'm sure Mexican illegal immigrants believe they have a right to be here. But I'm not so sure they believe the Southwest should be returned to Mexico. These illegal immigrants have left their country for a reason--it sucks. Its economy is abysmal and its standard of living terrible. They've come to the United States for a better life. Why would they want to weaken the U.S. and jeopardize that opportunity?
I don't doubt that some immigrants on the fringe would like California, Nevada, Texas, etc. returned to Mexico. But I'd like to see some empirical evidence that a significant proportion believe this.
Dan, I do not have the membership totals of the multiple groups whose goal it is to change our country for the worst. Some of them are La Raza, MALDEF, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), and the National Immigration Forum are part of a broad network of immigrant rights groups. I would guess that practically all of them belong to some group like that. I do not doubt that the brazen illegals or trespassers (I like to call them 'squirrels') left because of a bad situation, but the way they left to come here was wrong, and how they contribute or don't contribute to American society itself once they are here is as an ungrateful and stubborn bunch that have no desire to fit in with the American way of life (reading, writing, and speaking fluent English). Instead they are content to be outcasts and law-breakers. We don't need people like this in our country. We want and deserve to have the best and brightest come here, not the bottom of the barrel. Those who come here from bad situations should stay in their country to try to improve it. We have poor and crime-ridden urban areas in this country, thanks to the illegals or trespassers, and the Americans in those cities don't leave in hordes to go to Canada or any other country. Most stay and try to improve the situation or move within the country if they have the resources.
