Multi-Brand Franchise Investors to Bring Inclusive Waxing Salon Concept to Pennsylvania and New Jersey
April 30, 2020 // Franchising.com // BOISE, Idaho. - “An inclusive waxing-only salon for Every Body” is coming to Metro Philly and South Jersey.
LunchboxWax, the premier full-service, speed-waxing salon, announced it has signed an agreement with seasoned multi-brand franchise owners Dale Westergard and Brittany Ishman along with their daughter Devon Westergard. Philly-native, Dale, and his wife Brittany will be using their combined experience as owners of Two Men and a Truck locations in Philly and New Jersey to open three LunchboxWax locations in Metro Philly and South Jersey with the forthcoming location expected to open in fall 2020.
“What drew us to invest in LunchboxWax is simple – the culture. There is an opportunity to grow with a brand that continues to bring an edge to the waxing industry and has a proven business model,” said Dale Westergard, owner of the upcoming LunchboxWax locations in Metro Philly and South Jersey. “The leadership team at corporate works hard to support its franchise partners and consistently finding new ways to keep the brand at the forefront. There’s nothing like LunchboxWax here in Metro Philly and South Jersey, and we’re excited to be the ones who get to introduce the community to it.”
The LunchboxWax salons in Metro Philly and South Jersey, will offer a full range of hair removal services from top to toes, bottoms to brows and cheeks to chest. Using its proprietary three-step speed-waxing process, LunchboxWax uses a proprietary “soft wax” technique that is more effective and less painful than traditional waxing. As the local owners, Dale, Brittany and Devon will be leading waxologist recruitment, prioritizing talented estheticians that are passionate about providing an unparalleled guest experience. They will also oversee daily business operations to ensure unparalleled service.
“Franchise partners like Dale, Brittany and Devon who have shown their dedication to putting culture and people first are just the right fit,” said Debi Lane, CEO and founder of LunchboxWax. “Along with their impressive backgrounds in business ownership as well as the health and wellness space, it makes them the perfect people to introduce Metro Philly and South Jersey to the heart and soul of what makes the LunchboxWax experience so special. The rest of the team and I are looking forward to supporting them and seeing the community’s reaction to our brand.”
The brand’s low-cost investment along with support from an executive team with extensive salon and franchise experience is designed to attract individuals who are passionate about providing exceptional customer service, involved in the local community and have a strong business acumen.

Mary Ellen's Moving People Forward® scholarship participant: Mackenzie Kilgariff
Source: http://hub.twomen.com/Pages/Scholarship-2020-Mackenzie.aspx
October 7, 2020
Congratulations to the new participants of Mary Ellen's Moving People Forward® scholarship program: Mackenzie Kilgariff and Christine Thomas. From August 2020 to September 2021, these individuals will receive extensive training that will ultimately prepare them to become successful TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchisees.
Learn more below about Mackenzie Kilgariff, logistics manager at the Princeton, N.J., franchise.
How long have you been a part of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK family?
I have been with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK for about four years. I started working for the company when I was a freshman in college as a marketing intern.
What is one of the most important things you've learned during your time within the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK system?
One of the things I have learned that has really stuck with me in my personal and professional life is to take a different approach in every situation. I come into work not knowing what to expect and knowing I can't compare it to another situation. Every occurrence, customer, and challenge I face is unique. I think that is why I love coming to work so much – I never know what the day is going to bring. I may be out on the trucks helping the guys move a piano or jumping on the phones to assist with sales. Every day is a new adventure and that has helped me gain an overall understanding to take each new problem as it comes. It has helped me to not be so quick to jump to conclusions or judge a book by its cover, which isn't always the easiest thing in today's society.
What do you think it takes to run a successful franchise?
It's grit. Now, I don't just say that because I am an avid Philadelphia Flyers fan and I love our mascot, Gritty. A professor of mine mentioned the term to me quite a few times while I was in her class. Grit is described as passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. It is sticking with your future day in and day out and working really hard to make that future a reality. I think that is one of the driving factors to having a successful franchise -- you are not looking to continue your success for a few days or a few months, but for years and years to come. Every franchisee I have had the pleasure of meeting so far possesses this quality, and so do their managers. I have never seen a company that attracts more people with grit than TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.
What is one area of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK business you are excited to learn the most about in being part of the program? Why?
I am very excited to learn all about finance. Numbers and charts were not always my strong point, and I am eager to go back over everything but with a focus on TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and all of our processes. I am also excited to learn from the Profit Navigator training and be able to apply it to the tasks within my current franchise.
Aside from owning your own franchise, what is one of the biggest takeaways you hope to gain from the program?
I'm excited to see what new skills and concepts I can learn from those around me and sharpen skills I have already acquired. The people who are advising me and Christine in the scholarship program have their positions for a reason, and I can't wait to see what I can learn from them that I would never have had the opportunity to. I also look forward to building new connections and relationships throughout the system.
Is there any person (or multiple people) whom you can credit in helping with your success?
The main person I can credit for my success would be my franchisee, Brittany Ishman. Brittany saw something in me before anyone else really did. I was originally a criminal justice major in college and wanted to pursue being a detective. She saw how natural my people skills were, and asked me to consider the marketing intern position that was available with the Philadelphia franchise. I had no idea what I was doing and hadn't even heard of terms like "ad words" or "SEO." Once I jumped in, I immediately fell in love with the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK brand. I switched my major to business management and knew I wanted to continue my success with the company. It was like I had an epiphany, but with little stick men and moving boxes. Every business lecture or other internship I had, I related back to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in any way I could. From there, Brittany helped me turn my passion for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK into an all-around knowledge for the company. If she didn't take a chance on me and tell me to go for that marketing position, I'm not entirely sure where my career path would be right now.
Congratulations, Mackenzie! Stay tuned for our upcoming interview with Christine Thomas.

New waxing salon looking to open several locations in South Jersey By Jarrad Daniel Saffren

LunchboxWax employees at the Marlton location Thursday. From left: Salon Director Devon Kilgariff, Waxologist Taylor Truitt and Waxologist Carly Delaplain.
Hairlessness is in, according to Dale and Brittany Westergard, the owners of LunchboxWax, a new waxing salon.
That's why the franchisees of the national chain are opening locations in some of South Jersey's biggest towns, they said.
The more people that live in a place, the more potential customers the popular new concept will attract, added Dale Westergard.
The Westergards, a husband-wife team, opened a LunchboxWax in Evesham, Burlington County's biggest town, in January. They have signed a lease for a second salon, likely to open this fall, in Mount Laurel, Burlington County's second biggest town.
The Medford-based couple is also exploring Cherry Hill, with its population of more than 70,000, for a possible third location. Eventually, the Westergards want to have 5-10 spots in South Jersey and the Philadelphia suburbs, they said.
If their Evesham salon is any indication, their plan is feasible. It has experienced 100 percent growth over the last three months, according to Dale Westergard.
"A lot of people are wanting that nude look, especially now with COVID and things being lifted," said Brittany Westergard. "There’s more and more people coming in because they want to go out and do things."
"People want that clean look at the beach," Dale Westergard added.
In January 2020, Westergard was looking for something to do after selling his previous franchising venture, seven Two Men And A Truck moving businesses in the Philadelphia market.
One Sunday, he was scrolling Facebook when a friend commented on a picture of the LunchboxWax logo. Dale showed his phone to Brittany and said, "This is it."
He thought the concept looked cool, he said. And when the couple looked deeper into the product, they were sold.
As Brittany Westergard explains it, LunchboxWax uses a protective "soft" layer to prevent painful waxing experiences, like the one in the movie "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" when Steve Carell's character screams "Kelly Clarkson!" With the barrier, LunchboxWax employees don't remove any skin, just hair.
The goal is for customers to walk out with no hair and smooth skin, according to Westergard.
"It's definitely a top-notch experience," she said.
So far at their 1,200-square-foot, six-waxologist Evesham location, the Westergards have been impressed by the diversity of their clientele.
The salon is attracting the usual waxing customers like young women, swimmers and wrestlers. But it is also drawing young men going for that clean look, construction workers who have to wear harnesses and seniors on the dating scene, according to the owners.
They think it's just a popular service in a central location, not just in terms of the town, but also the shopping center. The Evesham spot is in the Marlton Crossing Shopping Center, which has anchor stores like TJ Maxx and Home Goods.
The Mount Laurel LunchboxWax will be on Centerton Road near Topgolf and Costco.
"It's about getting out and telling people," Brittany Westergard said. "Social media is great but nothing is better than word of mouth."

All the smiles, tears, and 80 hour work weeks were finally worth it. I am “over the moon” to announce that my business baby, #0622 Post Avenue Transportation DBA Tmt of New Brunswick will be opening its doors in March of 2022.
Last August, I was accepted into an internal program called Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward scholarship. For 15 months I’ve laughed, cried, and gone through a very intense leadership program while running the day to day business operations. There has been a lot of sweat, smiles, and tears, but I am happy to say that after this is all said and done I received 80% of my opening fees to own my own franchise. I am happy to share I’ll be opening TWO MEN AND A TRUCK of New Brunswick, NJ.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me in the last 15 months. I’ve been a little dead to the world since putting in so many hours, but have had countless support from start to finish and I could not be more grateful.
Special thank you to my business partner Brittany Westergard. She has pushed me to limits I never even knew I had! I also want to say thank you to my famous 4, Dennis Kilgariff April Richards Berkin Dawn Braun Kilgariff and Peter Berkin, who have also shown me countless support (and Kendall too). Wyatt Riley who helped me through the constant complaining and frustrated tears. Last but not least to Heather Kilgariff Photography for my awesome pictures!
I am happy to start this next chapter of my life as a 23 year old business owner!

Leveraging a scholarship to cover initial fees, the 23-year-old general manager and her business mentor are two of the newest franchise owners with the “Movers Who Care®” brand.
At just 23 years old, Mackenzie Kilgariff is one of the youngest franchise owners with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK*®, the 380-unit moving franchise. Kilgariff started her career as a marketing intern with the brand before rising through the ranks to a general manager position. Now, thanks in large part to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s scholarship program, which covered the bulk of her initial franchise fees, Kilgariff has teamed up with her mentor, Brittany Ishman, to open New Jersey’s third TWO MEN AND A TRUCK territory.
We spoke to Kilgariff and Ishman to learn more about their journey to franchising and their experience with the fast-growing moving brand.
1851 Franchise: Tell us your story – what did you do before franchising?
Mackenzie Kilgariff: I started with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK as an intern my freshman year of college at Westchester University. I had originally gone into college with a criminal justice background and wanted to become a cop but soon realized that it wasn’t the right path for me. My uncle owned the Philadelphia TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location and recommended that I pursue the marketing internship to get career experience — and I never left. I stayed with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and moved into a sales position for two years during college as well.
Brittany Ishman: I originally discovered TWO MEN AND A TRUCK when I was matched with a temporary position in their human resources department. I was covering for someone on maternity leave but when she returned, I was offered a permanent position and became a manager at the Home Office working in risk management and compliance. I helped build their human resources department and that’s where I saw how much fun the franchisees were having and thought that would be a great fit for me as well. I bought the rights for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in Princeton five years ago and now co-own the Brunswick rights with Mackenzie as she begins her journey as a franchisee.
1851: Why did you pick franchising over starting your own business?
Ishman: Franchising is nice because of the tools and support. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK has its blueprint laid out with training and offers top-notch support. I also own two other franchises in the beauty and wellness industry.
1851: When did you start looking for a franchise opportunity with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK? How long until you signed?
Kilgariff: ?I looked into the franchising opportunity when I looked into the Scholarship Program TWO MEN AND A TRUCK offers two years ago. I always knew I did want to own my own business and this felt like the perfect fit.
1851: How did you perform your research?
Kilgariff: ?A lot of it was internal knowledge that I had gained from TMT. I also learned a lot from Brittany. She was a great mentor and was not afraid to throw challenges my way. I also spoke with other franchisees and asked about their experiences.
1851: What could have scared you away from the opportunity? ?
Kilgariff: Moving is a very tough industry. It’s long hours, unhappy customers, and intense regulations. It takes certain people to be in an industry like this just due to the nature of it. No day is ever the same, and sometimes that is scary but very rewarding.
1851: Why did you pick TWO MEN AND A TRUCK? What excited you most about the potential?
Kilgariff: I graduated from Westchester University in the midst of the pandemic and I was worried about what my next step would be, so I looked at the one thing that had been consistent in my life for four years - TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. I expressed an interest in becoming even more involved and everything seemed to fall into place from there. I began an operations management role before moving up to a general manager position. During my time with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, I saw that the franchise owners have a deep passion for the brand and for seeing others succeed. Franchisees aren’t only interested in their own success, but that of everyone else in the franchise system. That comradery is why I wanted to stay with the brand. In addition to that, I love how involved with the community TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is. We just completed a Toys for Tots campaign where we helped transport all of the toys.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK offers a scholarship program in which managers who have been in the position for at least a year have an opportunity to go back to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK school. It’s a year-long process — every month I learned a new aspect of the business. It really helped me see the business from a new perspective. Instead of solely focusing on the day-to-day operations, I was also focused on the bigger picture. Throughout the process, I learned how to run the business as a franchisee and I was recently awarded a scholarship that covers 80% of the franchise fee. I will open my first location, with my co-owner and mentor Brittany Ishman, which covers Brunswick, New Jersey, this March. It will be New Jersey’s third TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location.
1851: What trends are you seeing in your local community?
Kilgariff: We haven’t stopped since the pandemic started. We’ve completed over 4,100 moves since March 2020.
Ishman: In 2020, the Princeton location had one of the top sales revenue for the entire system.
1851: What makes you stand out as a unique business owner in the local community?
Kilgariff: ?We do a lot of community service, that I love to be a part of. I love driving the trucks in the parades and going out on moves that benefit my community. We give a lot of donations to our local shelters, free moves to people in need in the community, transport food donations to food banks, and so much more. I think a lot of people my age are so ready to get their phones out and show everyone what they are doing, but it's also about the person you are and the leader you have to be when no one is watching you. (Hope that makes sense) I like just knowing that I am doing the right thing for my community.
1851: What are your dreams with the business? What does the future look like?
Kilgariff: I want to become the queen of moving in New Jersey. There’s so much opportunity for growth with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. More than half of the Garden State isn’t serviced by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and my goal is to change that. Brittany and I are two young women in a male-dominated field and we intend to shake it up.
1851: What advice would you have for others looking at buying a franchise?
Ishman: Do your research — owning a business is not an easy task so you need to be sure you love it. It’s also important to learn about your market and competitors and talk to other franchisees for advice.
Kilgariff: It’s also so important to make sure you take care of your employees.
1851: What do you do in your personal time?
Kilgariff: Talking about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. I’m so passionate about this brand. I also like to travel, whether it's hiking or going to the beach.
Ishman: I have a son that’s about to be a year old so I love spending my time with him.

There’s no one clear cut path to franchise ownership with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, and new franchisee Mackenzie Kilgariff is a perfect example of this.
While a number of our franchisees started on the trucks as movers or drivers and worked their way up, a large chunk of our franchisee network carved out their own path in their professional careers. For Kilgariff, franchising with a moving company might not have seemed like something she’d ever do just five years ago when she was attending college for criminal justice, but a love for the brand and its people is what set her on the journey to business ownership.
“When I was about to finish up my freshman year of college, [franchisee] Brittany Ishman was actually the one to tell me the Philadelphia location was looking for a marketing intern to help with social media and grassroots, and I thought I would be a good fit,” Kilgariff said. “I had no idea what I was doing and hadn’t even heard of terms like ‘ad words’ and ‘SEO’. Once I jumped in, though, I immediately fell in love with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. I quickly switched my major to business management, and I knew I wanted to continue with the company. It was like I had an epiphany.”
This epiphany set off a domino effect for a rapid climb up the franchise system for Kilgariff, who went from marketing intern to working in sales as a customer service representative, before her transition to logistics manager and finally landing as the general manager at the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Princeton location.
Throughout this time, she quickly formed a bond with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Franchisee Brittany Ishman, and it paid off in a big way for Kilgariff after she participated in the Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward Scholarship program, which gave her the training and education to open the New Brunswick, N.J., franchise with Ishman at the end of 2021.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind for the young franchisee, but she’s taking it stride and doing everything she can to grow into the role.
“One of the things I love about TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is the sky is the limit. You can hold every single position, you can move to another state, you can work with other franchises, you can work at home office, and so on,” Kilgariff said. “If you love the brand, you can go anywhere with it. I also loved the idea of the scholarship program and that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK gives you the opportunity to grow as an individual. I love this brand and everything it has done for me, so becoming a franchisee was an easy decision.”
While it’s been an exciting time for Kilgariff, it’s also been a challenge to learn the intricacies of business ownership, and it’s something she’s working each day to take on and improve with.
“This job isn’t for the faint of heart,” Kilgariff said. “At first, it was a struggle for me to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. This is probably the most notable and important thing I’ve learned as a franchisee. A TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise has a lot of moving parts working together.”
Still, learning and all, it’s been a successful journey for Kilgariff already, and she’s just getting started. When asked what her goals are moving forward, she doesn’t hold back when saying she wants to be the “queen of moving” in the state of New Jersey, and wants TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to be the only name people care about when it comes to home moving in the state.
She also is extremely focused on making sure her New Brunswick location lives up to the company core values at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, specifically “inclusion”, and she hopes to build a diverse workplace culture.
The process of being a franchisee has just begun, but the options are endless for Kilgariff. At the end of the day, she would recommend TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchising to anyone who is interested.
“I experience something new and exciting every day,” Kilgariff said. “Owning a franchise never has a dull moment. Don’t get me wrong – it’s a lot of work, but the payoff is equally – if not better – than what you can imagine. Basically, what I’m trying to say is: there will always be a challenge and there will always be bad that comes with the good, but working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK? The good is always great.”

Moving company franchise Two Men and a Truck opened another spot in New Jersey.
The company’s newest location started operating on June 1 in East Brunswick at 124 Tices Ln.
“The other Two Men and a Truck locations in New Jersey cover North Jersey and South Jersey so this area made the most sense to help provide locals with our services,” franchise owner of the East Brunswick location Mackenzie Kilgariff told NJ Advance Media.
This will be the company’s fourth Garden State spot. The other three are located in Fairfield, Hamilton and Moorestown.
Two Men and a Truck offers services like moving, packing and unpacking for homes and businesses. The company also sells boxes and moving supplies.
“We do anything from helping a client move a piece of furniture within their home, to moving an entire houseful of someone’s belongings across the country,” Kilgariff said.
The new location in East Brunswick will offer storage and haul-away services, as well.
There are currently over 350 locations operating nationwide.

Movin’ On Up: How two women hope to revitalize the moving industry in New Jersey By Tyler Brown

EAST BRUNSWICK – At 23-years-old, Mackenzie Kilgariff and her business mentor, Brittany Ishman, have planted their entrepreneurial seeds in East Brunswick.
The arrival of Two Men and a Truck, a renowned moving company, marks the first in the township.
With nearly 400 locations throughout the country, the reputation of Two Men and a Truck is well-established. Similarly, Kilgariff and Ishman have earned a reputable status within their industry as consummate professionals.
Ishman, who turned a temporary position at the company into a full-time career, serves as a manager in the company’s risk management and compliance department. Five years prior, she purchased the rights for the Two Men and a Truck location in Princeton. Thus, giving her the experience needed to expand into new territory.
Kilgariff, one of the company’s youngest franchise owners, initially began her career as a marketing intern at the company. Eventually, she transitioned into the role of general manager and after a few years, became co-owners with Ishman in East Brunswick.
Now, with a new location at 124 Tices Lane, the enterprising pair are eager to showcase the care and quality associated with their brand.
For less than a month, they have operated out of their new location. Yet, despite it’s infancy, Kilgariff and Ishman said that their arrival has been greeted with steady demand. According to their data and research, they explained that the East Brunswick area is bustling with movement as students arrive for college, families relocate, and new residents arrive.
Kilgariff stated that prior to establishing a location in East Brunswick, the travel costs associated with servicing areas in Central Jersey from their other locations, made it difficult for customers to afford.
However, with the new location, the immediate proximity to customers now enables them to offer affordable services that range from local and long-distance moves to junk removal and storage.
At just 23-years-old, Mackenzie Kilgariff is one of the youngest franchise owners at Two Men and a Truck. Photos by Tyler Brown/Sentinel.“We’re constantly getting calls for East Brunswick and New Brunswick. People that are moving from Rutgers, if they’re moving across the state, coming for college. A lot of people in Hillsborough and Freehold will call here.
“This whole Central Jersey area … we weren’t necessarily able to service … a lot of people didn’t want to pay for the travel cost.
“I’m really excited to service this area because we constantly get people. I’m really excited that I can call clients and say, ‘We’ll be there and it’s not going to take three hours of your travel to get there!’ There’s so much opportunity, there’s so many people moving around. This whole area is just constantly moving,” Kilgariff said.
For them, the goal is to rebuild the reputation of the moving industry by avoiding shortcuts and excuses.
“Unfortunately, there’s a bad reputation for movers in this area. We’ve heard from clients of movers not showing up. There are customers that the movers will hold their stuff hostage. There are customers that the movers have shown up and all of sudden, your prices are now doubled then what they originally estimated you over the phone,” Ishman said.
Ishman explained that their success is dependent on being recognized and referred to as the “Movers Who Care.”
On the wall of their newly established location in East Brunswick reads the slogan, "Movers Who Care" and the company's mission statement. Photos by Tyler Brown/Sentinel.For Kilagriff and Ishman, that seemingly small, yet important distinction is what separates Two Men and a Truck from its competitors. They stated that their commitment is based on understanding and considering the mental and financial stress associated with moving.
Additionally, they stated that the process shouldn’t be complicated by inconsiderate movers that alter prices or ghost clients.
“People are going through the most stressful times in their lives. Death, divorce, the pandemic, a lot of people lost their jobs or were laid-off. We want to make sure that it’s as easy as possible. Especially in New Jersey, where the moving industry hasn’t had the best reputation,” Ishman said.
With nearly 7,000 moves completed throughout New Jersey since the pandemic, they believe the latest addition to East Brunswick will soon increase those numbers.
Like past locations, they hope to benefit the community by providing a localized mover that offers customers a trouble-free experience.
Ultimately, they aspire to become the “queens of moving” in New Jersey by becoming a dependable and trusted name in the towns they service.
