The link provided above is in regards to the announcement made Thursday about the new green-white-checkered rule that goes into effect next weekend in Loudon, NH. It will be effective in NASCAR's top three series, even though the Craftsman Truck Series already uses it.
Imagine if they had this at Talladega back in April? I would have loved to see Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (amongst others) have a shoot-out to the finish. I like the idea, because I am getting tired of seeing races finish under caution as frequently as they have been.
Whether or not you like this new rule, my hat goes off to NASCAR President Mike Helton, and those behind the scenes of NASCAR's governing body. Mr. Helton is always available to answer any gray areas during broadcasts, and explains very thoroughly, whether it deals with the scoring system, or a situation on the track. Hopefully, these new "scoring loops" will alleviate confusion on the track as far as who is where. Hey, it is a work in progress, and they are trying their best to make NASCAR, in my opinion, the most fan-friendly sport in the world!
In closing, my condolences go out to the Hendrick family. "Papa Joe" will be missed by all in NASCAR. May you rest in peace, Mr. Hendrick.
